Birding at Bobelaine
Explore over five miles of signed and maintained grassy trails that run through mature oak forest, open grassland, along sloughs and a lake, through mixed riparian woodland, and partially along the west bank of the Feather River. eBird reports indicate that more than 200 species of birds have been observed, including Black-crowned Night Herons, Wood Ducks, and Swainson's Hawks.
Dogs are not permitted in the Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary, and parking is limited. Respect the private property west of Bobelaine. Parking on this property may result in your vehicle being towed. Please refer to the Parking Map below for the private property locations, marked in red. This map is also posted at the entrance to Bobelaine. Be cautious where you park. For additional rules and regulations regarding the use of the sancturary, please refer to conditions of use.
Your donation supports our stewardship of the Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary.
Contact Bill Bianco if you would like to participate in a Volunteer Workday at Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary.
Directions
From Sacramento: Take Highway 99/70 north. When Highways 99 and 70 split, stay on 99 and drive about 6 miles, crossing the Feather River bridge. The first signed street after the bridge is Sacramento Ave; drive 1.o miles farther north and turn right on Laurel Avenue.
From Marysville/Yuba City: Take Hwy 99 south to just past the old Dingville sign, then turn left on Laurel Avenue.
Once on Laurel Avenue, drive east about 0.75 miles until you reach an "End" sign and “Not a County Road” sign. Beyond this point the road is on private land. Please drive slowly across the heavy duty tread grate. Continue on until you reach the "Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary" sign, parking lot, kiosk and metal barn.
VISITORS BE AWARE:
If you witness or have information about a poaching or polluting incident, or any fish and wildlife violation, immediately dial the toll free CalTIP number 1 888 334-CALTIP (888 334-2258). Or you can submit anonymous tips to CDFW by texting "CALTIP", followed by a space and the message, to 847411 (tip411). For more CalTIP information go to https://wildlife.ca.gov/Enforcement/CalTIP.
Also the gate on the private road can be temporarily closed (without notice) due to agricultural operations. It is usually reopened within a short time period. Area farmers try to provide advance notice of gate closing. Advance closing notices will be posted at the top of this page.

In 1994, Sacramento Audubon produced a field guide to Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary. While it is no longer in print, you can view a pdf of the guide or this printer-friendly version.

Volunteer at Bobelaine
You can volunteer to help maintain Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary. Several Volunteer Workdays are held every months. Check out Sacramento Audubon's Calendar of Events for upcoming volunteer workdays. Typical duties include cutting brush and overhead growth along the trails, removing invasive plants, mowing weeds, helping maintain the newly planted pollinator garden, and cleanup around the picnic area and equipment shed. Email Bill Bianco for more information or to volunteer. Please be advised poison oak is prevalent at the sanctuary.
Current volunteers should complete the Bobelaine Volunteer Reimbursement Form once each quarter. Click the prior link for access to and instructions on completing the form.
