Sacramento Valley Conservancy Speaker: Hawk Talk - Raptor Conservation

This is a Sacramento Valley Conservancy event. Reservations are required.

Guest Speakers: Don Hildebrandt and Peter Martin of CA Hawking Club; Julie Cotton of CA Raptor Center; Ryan Bourbour of CA Dept of Fish & Wildlife

People are drawn to hawks, owls, and other raptors for their majestic presence, incredible hunting skills, and vital role in ecosystems. These birds symbolize strength and freedom, while their ability to control pests naturally makes them both awe-inspiring and ecologically valuable. Join us for an educational and visually stunning evening to learn more about these mysterous bird of prey. Topics will include the threats and challenges they face within the Sacramento Valley, as well as what we all can do to help coexist. The California Raptor Center will be bringing a few ambassador birds.

California Hawking Club, founded in 1971, promotes ethical falconry, education, and raptor conservation in California. The club supports aspiring and licensed falconers through mentorship and training while advocating for the protection of birds of prey and their habitats. The Club also hosts events, workshops, and public outreach to celebrate and preserve the art of falconry.

California Raptor Center, part of UC Davis, is dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured or orphaned birds of prey and advancing public education about raptors. The center offers visitors an opportunity to see non-releasable raptors up close and learn about their ecology, while also contributing to research and conservation efforts.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) plays a critical role in conserving raptor populations through habitat protection, research, and regulatory enforcement. By managing nesting sites, monitoring populations, and enforcing laws like the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, CDFW ensures the long-term survival of raptors across California.

Please RSVP below by 6pm the evening prior. Space is limited. Parking and admission are free, but donations are encouraged ($5-$20 per person recommended). Complete your liability waiver in advance for faster check-in.
